The Peace Buddha for Europe

Bremen has been chosen to host the European Peace Buddha. The statue is a gift from the Dalai Lama and symbolises world peace and international understanding. His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama dreams of a peaceful world, which lives together as one family.
He believes that we, as its citizens, are bound by a sense of universal responsibility; our empathy and compassion mean we sense and understand the mutual dependence of humankind and the fragile environment. (Deed of gift)

The Peace Buddha for Europe will be on display in the botanika from the middle of August 2017.

The golden statue represents the historic Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of the Buddhist religion. This gift to Europe makes it a holistic symbol for peace for all humankind, regardless of religion, culture and ethnicity. Its central relevance is thus less rooted in Buddhism, but is rather a call to reject violence and embrace international understanding.
